What if my child needs to take over-the-counter (OTC) or prescription medication while in care? |
|
State law indicates that medication, even non-prescription, can not be given to a child in a child care program without PRIOR written permission from the parent. If your child should require the administration of medication during child care hours you will need to fill out a Medication Authorization form which will be kept in your child’s permanent file. All medications will be administered by Robyn’s Nest staff only.
Parents may sign Medication Authorization form for the following medications so long as the bottle label indicates how much to dispense based on the child’s age and weight: |
|
· Antihistamines
· Non-aspirin pain relievers
· Non-narcotic cough suppressants
· Decongestants
· Ointments or lotions intended to reduce or stop itching or dry skin
· Diaper ointments and non-talc powders, intended only for use in the diaper area
· Sun screen for children over six months of age

A licensed health care provider’s consent, along with parent/legal guardian consent, will be required for prescription medications and all over-the-counter medications that do not meet the above criteria.
